The Maasai are a cattle-keeping society of East Africa, concentrated primarily in Kenya. They live in the Great Rift Valley of northern Tanzania and southern Kenya. The economy depends completely on cattle production, also keeping goats and sheep; moving their herds seasonally in search of good pastures. Since the 1970s significant numbers of Maasai begun to settle down into farming lifestyles.
